Info
J.A. Goodson Construction LLC has highly trained roofers with many decades of experience.
The severe storms of the past few years have lead to a rash of 'storm chasers' (out of state companies) coming in and doing some sub-par work. They bring their grossly underpaid crews with them and bang out as many jobs as they can and then leave town as quickly as they showed up. You the homeowner, are then left trying to play phone tag with an out of state contact who then tries to coordinate your repairs with a local company. Perhaps you know of someone who has gone through this. We feel this is 'bad business' and therefore always use our own guys.

Your Roof
When a roof can account for as much as 40% of the average home's exterior,
many factors weigh into the choice of materials.
Some surfaces are more beautiful than others. Some offer greater resilience
or endurance. Some are more affordable. But the one roofing surface
which offers all those attributes in balance is the asphalt shingle.
Now accounting for about 80% of the residential roof surfacing in the
United States, asphalt shingles are measured against a variety of standards
that evaluate fire and wind resistance, tear strength, and other key
performance indicators.
Whether 'three tab' or 'architectural', J.A.Goodson Construction installs
only High Quality shingles from the industry's top manufacturers that
meet and exceed these industry standards.
Three Tab Shingle
Three tab shingles are fairly thin, lightweight and are of single ply
thickness. The "3 tab"
element makes it so that an individual part of the shingle (one third)
can be lifted by the wind without having to lift the entire shingle.
(All of those factors make a 3 tab shingle less desirable if you live
in a high wind area.)
Also, every cutout (or key way) on a 3 tab roof exposes the top of the
shingle beneath it resulting in only 1 ply (layer) between the elements
and your roof deck.
Architectural / Dimensional Shingle
The basic material for the dimensional shingle is a little bit thicker.
There
are also extra pieces laminated on to each shingle to give it a thicker
and more random look.
Those extra pieces also add more weight and rigidity to the shingle.
If the wind is going to lift this shingle, it has to blow hard enough
to lift the entire 36" shingle, unlike the three tab shingle which
has 12" long tabs.
This solid construction also makes it a true '2 ply' system (2 layers
of protection between the elements and your roof deck). These are all
reasons why some insurance companies now insist on the installation
of dimensional shingles when a new roof is required in a claim.
